Caleb Freitag

Meet Caleb Freitag.

Q: Where do you go to school?

A: Augusta Christian Schools.

Please tell us about your current plans after high school and what inspired you to choose this path? After high school I plan on attending the SAE Institute in Atlanta to further study sound engineering.During high school I found that I had a love for what was happening behind the scenes with music. I wanted to know everything about the process of writing, mixing, and mastering songs. I started my own music project and have been learning for the past couple years. I love that everyone can play a part in how music is shared, and how connections can be built through music. I aspire to reach as many people as I can, whatever way I can through music.

Please tell us a little bit about your family. My family is pretty great! I have two sisters who can be a little bit crazy sometimes but are overall super awesome people. My parents are pretty amazing too, my Mom and Dad both have taught me important life lessons and how to work hard which I can’t thank them enough for.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Evans, and what do you love there?

A: My favorite restaurants in our area are probably, El Alazan, Curry Hut, and Pizza Joint. The people at those places definitely know how to make some good food!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Evans?

A: Mr. Adams one of my teachers is probably the one of the most interesting people I have met. He has a story or comment for anything you might say to him or ask him. He also travels down to Haiti to help in that community which I think is super cool.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?

A: I would probably travel to Japan, I find the culture there very inspiring and there is plenty of beautiful scenery all around the country to go and see.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

A: My favorite movie is probably Parasite, it is a really awesome thriller that has an interesting deeper meaning. The movie had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through and it tells its story very well.

Q: What’s the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?

A: The best advice I have ever received from a teacher was probably to never give up on what I love to do. My teacher, Mr. Surles always encouraged me to do the things I love and to push through when things were rough. His advice encourages me to work hard and always chase my dreams, and do whatever it takes to achieve my goals.

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?

A: Whenever I can’t decide on what to listen to, I always put something new on. I might listen to a new genre of music or a new artist, which can be really inspiring. My favorite music artists however are: San Holo, Taska Black, Flume, Pluko, Petit Biscuit, and ODESZA.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

A: I’d love to sit down with Hans Zimmer, he is a very unique and inspiring person. The amount of people he has been able to touch with his original pieces is insane. He is a super talented musician and I feel like I could learn tons and tons of information from him! I feel like we would have to meet somewhere fancy, because its seems like he is very particular and sophisticated. That certainly is not a bad thing though.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Evans?

A: I like that there is a lot of opportunity here and its relatively safe to go try new things. That could be work, going for walks, really anything there’s nothing stopping you from trying.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

A: Hopefully in 5 to 10 years I will be getting jobs in the Audio Engineering field. I could be doing live sound, mixing, mastering you name it, if I can learn it I can see myself doing it! Hopefully I will get the opportunity to open shows for artists who are touring around America. That has always been a dream of mine to perform my music in front of a large group of people.

Q: What show are you binge-watching right now?

A: I’m ashamed to say it, but the Tiger King documentary. I have never seen so much stupidity and mystery in one show. The directors did a very good job of keeping you guessing, and feels like every episode is outdoing its predecessors by being even more wild!

Q: What is your favorite month? Holiday? And best single day on the calendar?

A: My favorite month is probably June, I love the Summer feeling! My favorite holiday is Christmas because, who doesn’t like Christmas? The best single day on the calendar is probably June 18th for really no particular reason, I just like that day.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

A: The people around me, the more friendships and relationships I have that are positive, the more I aspire to be better. I also look up to many music producers as someday I hope to be doing the same thing as them. When they tell their stories it makes me want to work hard, so that one day I can be in their shoes and help inspire other people like me.

Q: If you could go back over your entire school career, what is one thing you would do differently?

A: I would probably end some friendships I had sooner, often I found these people would bring me down much more than they would lift me up. I think I could have been much happier if I hadn’t had some those negative influences in my life.

Q: Who or what do you miss the most right now?

A: I miss my friends, and being able to go out and hang out with people.

Q: What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?

A: I’ll probably go see some of the people I haven’t seen in awhile just to catch up and see whats been happening in their life.
