Sabrina Yates

Meet Sabrina Yates.

Please tell us a little bit about your family. I have been married to my amazing husband, Gary, for 19 years. We have a blended family with four children…two sons and two daughters. And now, we are the proud grandparents of three granddaughters and one grandson.

Please tell us about your current career. Thing you love most about what you do. I’m currently an independent contractor at Fringe Hair Salon in Evans. I’ve been a Master Cosmetologist for 15 years. I had worked in the medical field for 15 years before deciding to have a career change and work for myself. What I love most about my job are the clients. They quickly become friends that I consider family.

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

A: I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with hair and makeup! Making someone feel good about themselves is a very rewarding experience! I value having a thorough consultation with every client to ensure that expectations are met and their experience is pleasurable.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

A: I really like Ironwood Tavern and T-Bonz in Evans.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in Evans?

A: I have lived and worked in the CSRA my entire life. I grew up in Harlem where my parents reside to this day.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Evans?

A: I would have to say my husband, Gary. He grew up in Charlotte, NC and moved to the area in 1995.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?

A: I would travel to Sandals South Coast in Jamaica. This is mine and my husband’s favorite place! It’s gorgeous and romantic!

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

A: My favorite movie is Terms of Endearment and my favorite TV show is This Is Us.

Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?

A: The best advice I would give is that if someone tells you that you can’t do something, the best revenge is to prove them wrong!

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: The two main things on my bucket list are to stay at the Poseidon Undersea Resort in Fiji and to treat my entire family to a two week vacation at a Beaches All-Inclusive Resort.

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?

A: It’s a cross between Def Leppard and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Q: What current / former local business makes you the most nostalgic about Evans?

A: The OLD Pumpkin Center store makes me the most nostalgic about the CSRA. I remember stopping by there on the way to kindergarten or running by there after high school to grab a snack. It hasn’t been the same since it was replaced!

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

A: I would have lunch with the famous cosmetologist, Jonathan Antin, at Finch & Fifth. I would love to get his input on ideas that I have for taking my career to the next level.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Evans?

A: My favorite thing about our community is that our local government seems to always put an effort into arranging events that brings the community together.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

A: I’m very comfortable with where I am currently in my career and the flexibility my industry offers. Over the next few years, I want to continue to service my clients while growing my business.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

A: I love to sew but I never have the opportunity to sit down and start a project that I can finish in a timely manner.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?

A: The most beautiful place I’ve ever been is Aruba. It’s so small that you can see the entire island from the airplane while flying above.

Q: If you were cast in a movie and could choose your costar, who would it be?

A: I would choose Emily Smith. She’s not only my friend but she’s in the booth beside me at work. We’re pretty hilarious together! We would be great at improv!

Q: What is your favorite month? holiday? and best single day on the calendar?

A: My favorite month would be May. That’s when we take our annual family beach trip. My favorite holiday is Christmas and my favorite single day is March 24th. That’s the day I celebrate marrying my best friend.

A: Being a grandmother! Hands down!
