Rita Baker, Educator

Hi I’m Rita, born and raised in Mississippi and now a Georgia Peach. I have been in Augusta for 19 years and haven’t looked back since. I am an educator in the Richmond County School System. I love to serve God’s people using the talents He has given me. I have a few hobbies and side businesses that occupy my time outside of the classroom. My passions are teaching, photography, and singing.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I am a mom to a fur baby named Jade.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am an teacher for the Richmond County School System. I made a mid-year career change following my calling of teaching. I’m entering my 7th year of teaching. Everyday is new day in my classroom and it’s never work. I enjoy making a difference in every child I encounter.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
If I could choose my favorite sit down restaurant I would choose Manuel’s Bread Café and my favorite fast food would be Dunkin Donuts and Chick-fil-A.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I moved to Augusta back in 2001.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I don’t know, I’ve never been on a plane so anywhere to get me on a plane would be great.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
One of my favorite movies is Little Shop of Horrors ( I love musicals). My favorite tv show is Grey’s Anatomy.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Walk the path that was created for you. We all have our own paths and destinations and your path is not going to be the same as others.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Getting on a plane.

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Anything gospel! It gets me in a good mood hands-down.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Golden Harvest Food Bank – Master’s Table Soup Kitchen – I love what they do for our community.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Michelle Obama is has been an influential woman to all women across the country. I would want to meet up at Salt and Marrow (love the atmosphere).

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Our community is full of things to do and places to explore. We have lots of unique places to eat and shop.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In 5 to 10 years, I would love to continue the path that God has for me in all aspects of my life.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I am very sensitive.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Beauty is all around me, I try to take in the beauty of my surroundings wherever I am.

My Birthday, my Birthday and my Birthday!!! Did I mention my Birthday?

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A confetti bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes and free food! lol

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
I am very hard on myself so I would say myself. I’m always pushing myself to go harder.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Tranquil Mist by Yankee Candle.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Comfort, peace, mine.
