Heather Hill

Heather Hill, Director of Community Life at Mosaic UMC

Gerilyn: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

Heather: I knew that I was called to ministry, but I wasn’t exactly sure about which area or how I was called. So, I would say that Caroyln Moore inspired me and led me into what I’m doing now through my involvement in the church and with her mentoring me. Carolyn spent a great deal of time with me helping me to figure out what my call is and how live into it.

Gerilyn: What is your favorite restaurant in Evans, and what do you love there?

Heather: I really like Pita Pit. It’s one of my favorites. I like that it’s healthy, and it’s really good. I love the environment, and Curt and I are regulars there. They know us, and they’re always real friendly when we come in. I get the chicken souvlaki, and I customize it. It’s big, and it’s delicious.

Gerilyn: How long have you lived or worked in Evans?

Heather: I have worked in Evans for about five years now, but I live in Martinez.

Gerilyn: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Evans? Who would you like to see nominated as a Face of Evans, Georgia?

Heather: Steve Moore is intelligent, and he’s funny with a great sense of humor. I love his preaching, and I would love to see him interviewed for the Faces of Evans.

Gerilyn: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?

Heather: It would have to be Jerusalem. I would love to go into the Holy Land. Just the thought of being where Jesus was and walking where Jesus walked and seeing things that He saw… the thought of it gets me excited.

Gerilyn: What is your favorite movie, or what is the first movie you remember seeing in a theatre?

Heather: My favorite movie is Silver Linings Playbook. It’s a lovely story about two broken people who find love against all odds and somehow make it work in all of their mess.

Gerilyn: What advice would you give to a crowd of people?

Heather: Assume the best in people. Trust over distrust. I think people are inherently good, and when we go into situations thinking otherwise, we color it with our own biases. So, that’s what I would say – assume the best.

Gerilyn: What is something on your bucket list?

Heather: Visiting Poland, without a doubt.

Gerilyn: What is your favorite music or three bands you would like to see, whether they’re dead or alive?

Heather: Matt Maher, Cory Asbury, and the Eagles. That’s an interesting mix.

Gerilyn: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about Evans?

Heather: It would have to be Evans Diner. The atmosphere of it was great, and the aesthetics were wonderful. It has a nostalgic feel to it.

Gerilyn: Choosing anyone alive and a non-relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Where in Evans would you go?

Heather: I miss my friend, Beth Esposito. I would love to see her and have lunch with her to catch up and see how she’s doing and where she’s at right now. We met in high school, so she’s actually my oldest friend ever. I miss her a lot. We would go to T-Bone’s.

Gerilyn: Where do you see yourself in five or ten years?

Heather: I see myself still here, still working for Mosaic and working toward the goal of building a recovery house for women. That’s my personal dream.

Gerilyn: Even for friends or family, what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

Heather: I think most people know that I enjoy writing, but they probably don’t know that I like to write poems, too. Not that I’m any good at it, but it’s fun. I like to express myself that way. I also love to draw and doodle and paint. I’m not good at it, but it’s fun.

Gerilyn: What three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word “home?”

Heather: I think warm, comfortable, and safe.
