Catherine Marley

Meet Catherine Marley.

Please tell us a little bit about your family. I am married to Chad and we have 3 kids (age 10, 13 and 15). One in elementary, middle and high school. We are a military family although Chad recently retired. We are originally from the Atlanta area but have lived in the CSRA twice for more than 14 years total.

Q: Please tell us about your current career. What led you to it and what Do you love most about what you do?

A: I am a Travel Planner at Hi Ho Vacations, an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner. Hi Ho Vacations is an award winning Platinum Level Planning agency and I feel fortunate to be a part of their team. Although I am a Social Worker by training, I have always loved Disney and traveling! Once I became a mom, I helped people plan trips and was lucky enough to make it into a full time paid position. I want to share my love for Disney and passion for helping families have amazing experiences and memories. I assist in planning all Disney destinations (theme parks, Adventures by Disney, Disney Cruise Line), Universal Parks, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Virgin Voyages, Ama Waterways and my new love, G Adventures and National Geographic Journeys. All of my services are 100% free to use and are the same price as if you booked direct! There are no hidden fees. You see, Disney and other vendors simply pay us to help you. Our commission is built into the price you pay when you book. When you plan your vacation with me, I advise and work to your benefit! You receive individual attention and service from someone who really gets to know your family!

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

A: Cucina 503, Craft and Vine, Cork and Flame, Farmhaus Burger, Frog and the Hen, Edgar’s Grille and several more! We are foodies so I like a lot of things.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

A: Over 14 years total but with Army life we are on round 2! Currently, in our 11th year this go around but we’ll be here. Husband retired after 21 years of Active Duty, wahoo!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?

A: Not considering the current “Shelter in Place” and Covid-19 pandemic, I would love to travel in Europe again. We have a trip planned to Italy and Greece in 2021 and I am looking forward to it. Planning during this time has kept me looking forward to a time when it will be safe to travel once more.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

A: Right now we are watching Ozark, just finished up Outsider. It’s pretty intense but really good! I don’t normally watch TV but with the Shelter in Place we are watching a lot.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

A: Take the Trip! My favorite travel quote is from the Dalai Lama, “Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before!” I love showing my kids the world. They have learned so much through our family adventures!

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: Hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?

A: That is tough!! My music taste really depends on my mood! Sunny warm days lately so I have been listening to Zac Brown Band. I do love Indie Rock the most though.

Q: What current / former local business makes you the most nostalgic about Evans?

A: Fat Man’s Forest! I loved going there and my oldest’s first Halloween costume came from there. It was a frog costume! I remember getting numerous Christmas Trees from their lot.

Q: Choosing anyone alive and a non-relative with whom would you love to have lunch? Why and where would you have lunch?

A: The Dalai Lama. I just feel calm and peace when thinking of him. The compassion and wise words he shares with the people of the world is more than inspiring…it’s energizing! I want to know how he keeps his inner peace and sense of compassion during periods of turmoil. For where we would dine, I think we would go to either Pho Bac (if he wants familiar food) or to Edgar’s Grille where we could dine outside on their patio.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Evans?

A: I love the Augusta canal and being close to the river. So many options for outdoor activity.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

A: I have no idea! I hope traveling non-stop!

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

A: I won a Big Wheel race as a young child.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?

A: Hawaii or Alaska.

Q: What is your favorite month? holiday? and best single day on the calendar?

A: May is my favorite. It’s warm but not blazing hot yet. I love Halloween, it’s just silly fun (and no pressure/rat race) for everyone.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

A: Pasta Carbonara from Cucina 503. It’s my go-to comfort food!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

A: My husband. He is the most honest person I have ever met. He and I may not always agree but he will always be honest. He doesn’t always say what I want to hear but he always does the “right” thing.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?

A: Fresh cut grass and fresh baked bread.

Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

A: My kids, Dogs and Family.
