Hello! I am Ashley Devine! I am 31-years old, I have a son who’s 9 years old, and lots of loving family and friends. I have been teaching in Columbia County for 7 years and I am a lover of sunshine, beaches, meditation, and yoga! In my spare time I enjoy singing Karaoke and Reading. My favorite author is Mya Angelou.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My family is originally from Burke County, but migrated to the Augusta area, where I have spent majority of my life. I have an older sister and a younger brother, as well as 2 nieces and 3 nephews

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I have worked as an educator for my entire career. I have taught 6th through 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies throughout my years as a teacher. What I love most about what I do is helping my children grow, not only academically, but emotionally as well. I always instill positive life lessons into teachings, and it makes my heart smile when a student I use to teach tells me something I taught them that they still remember long after me saying it.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I have many, as one of my favorite things is to eat out and socialize, but to name a few I LOVE Poblanos Mexican Bar & Grill, Chicken Fingers, and Goolsby’s.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I have worked in Evans for 7 years and counting.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
The most interesting person I have met in Evans is Mr. Brandon Higgins. He was a part of the PTO at a school I taught at and he was such an outgoing, fun positive person. I taught one of his children and he was always supportive. I never saw him change up his demeanor and he is such a genuine person.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would travel to Puerto Rico. I really enjoy the culture so I would love to immerse myself in it and experience it authentically. I also planned a trip there this past summer but due to Covid-19 I had to cancel, so if I had the opportunity to go right now I would not second guess it.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
One of my favorite movies is Secret Life of Bees and one of my favorite TV shows is Umbrella Academy (currently)

Q: What advice would you give to people?
I would advise everyone to follow that dream, desire, talent, or idea n matter what it may look like to others. Edgar Allen Guest stated it best by saying, “Somebody said that it could not be done, but he with a chuckle replied, that maybe it couldn’t but he would be one, who would not say so, until HE tried.”

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I want to spend a month during the summer on Martha’s Vineyard-Oak Bluff outside of Massachusetts. That would be a dream come true, as I love being near beautiful water.

I enjoy Jhene Aiko, Anita Baker, Chris Brown and Nina Simone any day of the week!

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Evans Diner makes me feel most nostalgic.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I would definitely choose to have lunch with Oprah Winfrey at Cork and Vine! It is a very nice place with meals that I believe her taste buds would be pleased with. Oprah is an inspiration to me, so to be able to sit with her for lunch and pick her brain of all its wisdom would be beyond amazing.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I really enjoy Lady Antebellum Park. My son has had many firsts there. He rode his first bike there, had his birthday parties there, and met new friends from the community to play with as well.

In 5 to 10 years I see myself conferencing, and inspiring lots of young ladies to live up to their full potential and how to manifest their dreams into reality.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Most people do not know that I LOVE to sing and that I am an introvert. I am always around others, which I often enjoy, but being in my room is definitely my happy place.
